Beyond the stereotypes that surround the image of the "perfect woman", Jaime Confer, co-author of the study, which was published by the magazine Evolution and Human Behavior , indicates that the female body is an indicator on the fertility status, while the face gives an idea about the reproductive value, but in the long term.

The essay was attended by 375 students from the University of Texas, who were shown the image of a person whose face and body was hidden; but to those who were asked to choose their potential long-term and short-term partner. The participants had the option to see either the head or the body, but not both.

According to the results obtained, it was discovered that 51% of those who were told to consider them as a couple in the short term chose to look only at the body; while 25% observed the faces when thinking of a longer relationship.

Previous research has examined qualities that make faces and bodies attractive, such as symmetry and waist-hip ratio. But this is the first study that experimentally analyzes the relative importance of these traits as integral components of the duration of a relationship.
