How much more alcohol young men drink, the lower could be the counting and the quality of their sperm , suggests a recent research published in the magazineBMJ Open .
"Many studies have shown that excessive intake of alcohol it is bad for the health in general, but few have shown the impacts on the reproductive health, except at very high levels ", comments the Dr. Michael Eisenberg, assistant professor of urology at the Stanford University School of Medicine , who did not participate in the study.
"This provides another lifestyle factor on which men should be advised when they try to conceive."

Although the men who drank more alcohol per week (40 units or more) had the lowest sperm count, the most surprising finding was that an effect is observed even in men who barely drank five units per week, says the lead researcher, Dr. Tina Kold Jensen, professor of environmental medicine at the University of Southern Denmark .
A unit is defined as a single beer, a glass of wine or more or less the equivalent of a shot glass of distilled liquor.
