7 tips to not lose your health on a trip

Traveling more than three hours in a row by plane or bus, in a narrow seat, in a single position and with a limited space that limits the movement of the waist down, can be dangerous for your blood circulation

That's why we give you seven tips to avoid risks.

1. Before the crossing. If the route will be three hours or more, and there are no stopovers, it is important that, before leaving, we visit the specialist in Angiology and Vascular Surgery, to tell us if we have risk factors -indirect or direct- that could endanger the normal functioning of the veins.

2. The best places . The type of seats, the immobility forced by the trip and the duration of it, are factors that could hinder, the venous circulation in the back of the legs.

For this reason, the best places are next to the corridor, so -an hour of travel- it will be easier to stand up to stretch your legs, walk and exercise your calves, this activity should last, at least, five minutes, so we will facilitate the function of the veins.

3. Hydration. Before leaving, during the trip and when arriving at our destination, we must increase the amount of water we normally drink, and avoid drinks with alcohol, caffeine and other stimulants, this prevention will be followed -especially- if we travel by plane.

4. Do not wear tight clothing. Clothing tight on the waist, groin and legs is a risk. It is better to wear loose clothes and shoes, so the circulation of the body will have no obstacles. Now, if our doctor deems it convenient, we will prescribe socks with special adjustment.

5. Do not travel with your legs crossed. Do not sit in a forced way to put the hand luggage and the computer on the legs and knees. On the bus or on the plane, nothing should block the space for movement from the waist down.

6. Sleeping in an airplane or bus. When we sleep in a bed we move freely and freely, but in an airplane or other means of transport, the seats and spaces are very narrow, so, it is advisable to sleep -only at times- and with the legs as straight as possible .

It is best not to take pills to fall asleep, since it is risky to sleep for several hours with the legs semi-flexed and without changing position.

7. Our background. On long trips, the precautions we have mentioned are fully justified, especially if we suffer from obesity, diabetes, personal and / or family history of thrombosis, venous, cardiac or respiratory disease. And if recently, we suffered a waist injury down, if we take hormones or if we had major surgery.

In addition to the advice of your doctor, and the corrective and preventive measures we have mentioned, it is worthwhile to activate your blood circulation, with exercises that you can do easily, before during and after the trip.
