Only 40% of surgeries to stop snoring serve

Snore It has become a normal and common act. Today, 45% of adults snore occasionally and 25% are habitual snorers .

The problem is not the snoring , but the inconvenience that they cause individually and to the people with whom you share the room.

The snoring can be caused by the deviation of the nasal septum , or to the softening of the tissues of the tongue, the throat and the palate . This softening makes it difficult for the air to pass and a loud vibration occurs when breathing snore .

Without a doubt, snoring is not good. It causes a bad mood, irritation, fatigue lack of rest during the dream ; and above all, dissatisfaction of the couple, since she can not either rest . These are the reasons, which motivates the endless search for alternatives to reduce the unpleasant sound called snore .

Most people who suffer from this discomfort, before going to a specialist and take appropriate treatment, run to pharmacies or self-service stores to self-medicate and find that infallible remedy that reduces their snoring.

And as a last alternative, resort to home remedies. At the end of the account, with none of these, they achieve their goal. And as today's surgeries are, resort to one of them to eliminate the snoring , it is an option.

Effectiveness of surgery

The doctor David Nuñez member of the Mexican Federation of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery (Fesormex), explains that if there is a surgery to eliminate snoring. This consists of a small throat and palate surgery to adjust the flaccid tissues and expand the airways:

"The uvulopalatoplasty is one of the surgical techniques that has been most widespread in otolaryngology consultations in recent years to respond to snorers ".

"To his credit, it is a simple procedure, it is not expensive and it takes between three and eight days to recover, it is done on an outpatient basis, with local anesthesia and lasts for half an hour, but its real effectiveness in resolving the noisy nocturnal disorder. It is not absolute. "

This surgery is an alternative to eliminate snoring, but unfortunately its effectiveness is not 100%. Statistics show that only 40% of surgeries performed are successful.

The FESORMEX urges the population not to remedy the problem but to prevent it by carrying out the following recommendations:

1. Lose weight.
2. Smoking less or nothing, mainly after dinner.
3. Do not dine abundantly
4. Do not drink alcoholic beverages at night.
5. Sleeping on the side and with the head higher than the rest of the body.
6. Raise the head of the bed a little.
