Excessive hairiness conceals diseases

It is not just an aesthetic matter, but the possibility of suffering a serious illness without knowing it. Hirsutism, as this disorder is also known, is characterized by the abnormal growth of hair in areas of the skin where there is usually no hair.

This condition can affect both women and men. However, in those it represents a problem since the excessive development of female hair in the usually non-hairy areas such as face, areola of the nipple, midline of the thorax and abdomen, buttocks or thighs, can sometimes indicate an internal disease.

According to specialists of the health system of the University of Virginia (United States), hirsutism tends to be hereditary, especially among families of Mediterranean origin, in minors and women it is likely that its origin is in disorders of the gland pituitary or adrenal.

Some women may have this condition after menopause and anabolic steroids or corticosteroids, as well as certain medications, can also cause hirsutism.

The important thing is that, whatever the cause, it will be necessary to go to the doctor because if it is an endocrine disorder will have to perform various clinical examinations.

Treatment of excessive hairiness

The specific treatment of excessive hairiness will be determined only by the doctor, not by what certain publications say or by the advice of friends, and will be based on certain information such as age, general state of health and medical history; the progress of the problem and the cause that causes it; tolerance to certain medications, procedures or therapies, as well as their expectations and preferences regarding treatment.

Ingrown hairs

Another issue is that of ingrown hairs, which are nothing but hair that curls and whose tip penetrates the skin, which produces inflammation in the skin and formation of pus.

Ingrown hairs are common among people with curly hair and, in most cases, they are incarnated in the beard.

In general, this problem is solved without the intervention of the doctor, however, in case they are incarnated repeatedly, the treatment may include: letting the hair grow, be inclined by some type of hair removal (to extract the hairs), or opt for electrolysis (to extract the hairs).
