Mexico extreme precautions for cholera

After the detection of the first case of anger in the United States, the Ministry of Health of Mexico raised the level of vigilance epidemiological to prevent this disease, if it reaches the country, from spreading rapidly.

"Fortunately, the infrastructure in Mexico is much higher (than in Haiti), however, this is not so much the problem as it is (cholera) is irrigated like fire, if pollute a blanket of water, multiply the risk for millions, "the health secretary said in an interview José Ángel Córdova Villalobos .

He added that all states have been instructed to strengthen the measures of surveillance of the disease , since the main concern is that it is not detected in time.

"The first thing is to detect it quickly, here what delicate It would be that we would realize when there were a large number of cases, we must demonstrate it quickly, make the sanitary fence, follow up the positive cases to see where the contagion could have been, and do the isolation to prevent it from being transmitted, "he said.

He indicated that Mexico usually maintains a system of surveillance of this disease , which consists of performing rectal tests on patients who have a diarrhea similar to the one that causes cholera, as well as analyzing the drains to rule out the presence of the infectious agent.

In addition to increasing the number of tests, he announced, the states have been asked to strengthen the chlorination of water for human consumption.
