Lula da Silva starts radiotherapy treatment

The former Brazilian president Lula da Silva submitted to the first session of radiotherapy to fight the laryngeal cancer that he was diagnosed last October and that he already dealt with chemotherapy .

After concluding the phase of chemotherapy that reduced by 75% the cancerous tumor , start the treatment of radiotherapy which will last between six and seven weeks. The purpose of the radiotherapy is to eliminate the residues of the tumor, which initially measured three centimeters.

The radiotherapy is a procedure that uses high-energy x-rays to destroy Carcinogenic cells , damages the DNA of these preventing their reproduction and growth. It is usually used before or after a surgery to prevent the reappearance of Cancer .

Lula da Silva intends to return to life politics in March, to support his party in the municipal elections of October next year.
