Yoghurt: an excellent choice for lactose intolerant

Food and drinks free of cow's milk, for the possibility of suffering from lactose intolerance.

But, Did you know that perhaps you have lived deceived all your life thinking that you suffer from this deficiency and in reality it is not so?

The specialist in the subject, Dennis Savaiano of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Purdue, USA, clarified all our doubts about it, during a symposium held at the Danone Institute of Mexico.

To get started…

Did you know that 70 to 75% of the population worldwide can suffer poor digestion due to lactose ingestion? However, did you know that only 2 to 3% of the world population is actually lactose intolerant?

As you read it. That a dairy product you fall ill does NOT mean that you present this organic failure, and in reality you should, to check it, try another dairy; how can natural yoghurt be?

The problem is that most people who have had a bad experience with a dairy, immediately self-diagnose and assume they are intolerant to them.

According to Savaiano, eliminating all dairy from our diet is not recommended: multiple studies have shown that the lack of lactose in our body increases the risk of fractures.

The surest way to know if you are lactose intolerant, is through a test that determines the presence or absence of the enzyme responsible for metabolizing the also known as "milk sugar".

Only the test will tell you if you are really part of that 3% of the world population that suffers from this disease, or that your problem only lies in badly digesting some dairy products ... NOT all.

This means that you DO NOT have to eliminate ALL milk derivatives from your diet, and that you should eat those that are good for you.

YES, there is a solution!

Some dairy products are better tolerated than others by people prone to bad digestions. Yoghurt, for example, is the best option for people sensitive to these products.

And, because of its fermentation process, it contains less lactose than cow's milk.

If you are a person with bad digestions caused by some products that contain lactose (like 75% of the population in the world), we invite you to consume yoghurt daily, as it will improve your capacity to properly metabolize the derivatives of it.

In addition to yoghurt, you can consume low-lactose milk products, such as petit-suisse, cream and cottage cheese.
