Guide for the use of the female condom

While the male condom sells millions of units annually in the world and is distributed free by the Health Sector in Mexico, the female condom is barely known and little commercialized due to lack of information, according to the Integral Health for Women association, SIPAM .

The female condom is a lubricated polyurethane pouch similar to the male but wider condom. The closed end has a flexible ring that the woman must insert into the vagina, leaving out the open end. It is made of a material twice as resistant as latex, and is larger than the male condom. It prevents penetration of sperm in the uterus.

The Mexican Institute of Youth recommends the following guide for its use:

1- If you have decided to use it, verify that there is an air bubble in the package before opening it. It also checks that the expiration date is valid.

2- Carefully open the package where indicated, preferably using the tips of your fingers to prevent the condom is torn by your nails, teeth, or scissors.

3- Fold in 8 the condom by exerting a small pressure on the inner ring to be able to introduce it to the vagina.

4- To insert it, find a comfortable position and without unfolding it introduce it with the thumb and the middle finger through the vagina, still tightening the inner ring that will be the part of the condom that penetrates first. You can help with the other hand by separating the lips of the vagina. Once inside, release it so that it covers the neck of the womb.

5- When releasing the inner ring inside the vagina, the rest of the condom should completely cover the vaginal labia.

6- During penetration, take care that the penis is inserted inside the condom and not by any of its sides.

7- Once the ejaculation is finished, you should immediately remove the condom. Turn the outer ring twice and pull it carefully to prevent the semen from running off. Once out of your body, wrap it in toilet paper and throw it away.
