Why does red meat hurt your heart?

Red meat is an important element in the diet of Mexicans; however, its consumption is limited since there is an intimate relationship between it and the development of cardiovascular diseases, but what makes it so bad for the heart?

According to a study published in the magazine Nature Medicine , the culprit may be carnitine, which is found in red meat and is degraded by bacteria in the intestine; which causes high cholesterol levels.

This is degraded into gas which later becomes a substance called TMAO, which is linked to the development of fatty deposits in the blood vessels, which leads to cardiovascular diseases and, in very serious cases, death.

The specialist Stanley Hazen , head of the study, suggests that the TMAO, considered as waste can directly influence the metabolism which produces an accumulation of cholesterol and consequently a damage to the heart.

Currently, it is recommended to consume 70 grams of red meat a day. Remember, everything in excess causes damage, that is why you should try to maintain a balanced diet and add 30 minutes of exercise to your daily routine.
