Who can enjoy the benefits of the columgym?

If you have discomfort in the spine, you should know the innovative therapeutic gymnastics called columgym. Among its benefits are strengthening the spine, align the posture and work all the muscle groups that surround it, so you'll look more slender.

This therapy was perfected by the physical education teacher Irma Oberst , who met her at a health center in Bochum (Germany). It is practiced with the whole column affirmed on the floor and the calves resting on a chair at a right angle.

It gives the impression of being a fairly quiet exercise routine; however, when practicing it you feel the intensity of work in all muscle groups. The exercises (suitable for all ages) are grouped in sequences that change.

 

Who can enjoy the benefits of the columgym?

According to the teacher Oberst , whose patients range from 19 to 82 years of age, the columgym is recommended for all those with damage and injuries to the spine.

With the therapy "the harmful movements in the daily life that lead to pains are corrected, and the abdominal and antagonistic muscles of the spine are fortified," he explains.

The columgym improves posture because "when you sit you notice more aligned, by increasing the perception of your muscles and, above all, by the relief in the waist area, resented by efforts", adds Obert.

These exercises also help to show a flatter belly because they work the abs and back muscles. The stronger the front is, the better the column feels.

At the time of practice, breathing must be deep and conscious. Exhalations, for example, are made when an effort is made. The exercises help to better perceive the sensations of the whole body. Each sequence is memorized and then followed at its own pace.

 

Try it!

1) Initial cube position. Lie on your back on the floor, place your hips and knees at 90 °. This position favors the spine and blood circulation.

2) To lengthen the column: Inhale and slide your arms across the floor up and back, lengthening the spine.

3) For the belly: With both hands on the nape of the neck, perform a straight abdominal lifting shoulders and exhaling. Return to the starting position and inhale.

4) For the obliques: Exhale performing an oblique abdominal. With the right hand, take the left leg. Repeat on the other side.
