5 keys to being a better person

In general, to be a better person, and happier, we must reinforce the positive aspects of our lives and eradicate the negative ones. Be aware of the need for change and have the willpower to initiate it, little by little, according to the psychologist Covadonga Chaves, member of the Spanish Society of Positive Psychology.

In this sense, according to the specialist, to be a better person it is important not only to want it, but to act it; in a concrete way, it is recommended to create your own "work plan" that allows you to make the small changes that make the difference, and of which we should feel proud and satisfied.

In said plan, according to positive psychology, it is recommended to include the following aspects:

1. Change of attitude . Privilege every day moods and positive emotions: joy, laughter, satisfaction, interest, romantic love, elevation, "flow", as well as perform a small action that highlights them.

2. Assertiveness Being assertive is more than just dealing with difficult people or dealing with complex situations. It is a form of personal evolution. What we do is part of a longer and deeper evolutionary process, personal development is essential for anything you really want to achieve.

3. Healthy practices . Optimism, gratitude, sharing, volunteering, meditation, yoga, physical exercise or artistic expression are activities that allow us to have better physical, mental and emotional health. Choose and perform more than three of them a week, reprogramming our brain and feelings towards a better quality of life.

4. Subtract importance to the material. Happiness does not have any kind of relationship with material belongings. The only safe belonging and that we must take care of is that of "myself". Learning to live with what you have and give value to the details is a much more valuable source than money.

5. Do what you love. It may sound trite, however, according to a study published by the National Health Centers of the United States (NIH) , there is a higher prevalence of premature deaths in adults who are not happy with their jobs or work. To be a better person, choose to do what allows personal and professional growth.

There are many strategies and tips to be a better person; however, according to the Spanish Society of Positive Psychology , one of the main keys is to take into account that happiness is a state of subjective well-being, so being a better person may not always be synonymous with being happy.
It is, then, to enjoy those things that make us feel better with ourselves, with the rest of the world and in our interpersonal relationships.
