Is the negativity contagious?

The emotional state you are in can directly influence your decision making; However, the social environment that surrounds you, friends, family, colleagues and partner, can make you choose wrongly, especially if they pass on your negative thoughts.

According to a study conducted by the University of Notre Dame, People have cognitive vulnerability at certain moments of their lives. In this, the surrounding environment can alter their way of perceiving and interpreting the difficulties that arise, which leads them to have negative emotions such as depression, melancholy or sadness.

Published by the magazine Clinical Psychological Science , and directed by the specialist Gerald Haeffel , research indicates that the way we think about life can be altered during the transitions of life, when the social environment undergoes a dramatic change.

The essay analyzed the behavior of a group of students, newly admitted, who, when living a moment of change, showed an emotional vulnerability that led them to be susceptible and to become infected by the mood of their roommates.

Haeffel suggests that this contagion of negative thoughts is not only limited to a student environment, it can also be found at work and even on social networks.

Try to maintain a balance both in your body and in the environment around you. Avoid people who do not contribute to your emotional growth, as these can alter your way of seeing and living life. Love and enjoy!
