SEP will monitor student size and weight

The Secretary of Public Education, Alonso Lujambio, will propose to the Secretary of Health (Ssa) that the School Councils of Social Participation of the schools are in charge of making a timely record of the weight Y size of basic education students, in order to detect in a timely manner overweight or obesity in the students.

In an interview with El Universal, Lujambio said that the General Health Law approved last week by the Senate instructs the Ssa and the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) to keep track of the size , weight Y body mass of the school population in basic education.

In this sense, the public official indicated that he will propose that "parents have a preponderant role and get involved in these actions".

Lujambio said he will propose that the School Councils of Social Participation: parents and teachers are pending registration.
