Your blood is too

Does your blood love it? The arrival of summer brings with it the increase in rainfall and consequently the factors that favor the propagation of insects that can cause discomfort and damage to health; example, mosquitoes.

However, why do mosquitoes bite some people more than others? Will it have to see the flavor? Beyond the popular belief about the sweetness of blood, they choose their victims based on the amount of carbon dioxide they emit when they breathe.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a colorless and odorless gas product of respiration and other human processes, among which the burning of fossil fuels stands out.

Published in the journal Nature, research indicates that these insects can detect a current with pulsations of CO2, from which they deduce that there is food behind.

Human beings produce approximately one kilogram of CO2 every day and each time they exhale - 13 times per minute - they emit more than one hundred milligrams of this gas. This is usually greater in adults than in children and varies from person to person depending on diet and exercise.

Other factors that have been shown to influence mosquito bites are the following:

Lactic acid. This is emitted when breathing and sweating, mainly in pregnant women and tall people.

Balanced ecosystem . A Dutch study found that mosquitoes avoid people with a high number of bacteria on the skin and, also, those with very few bacteria. They prefer those with a balanced ecosystem.

What is a fact is that you must take care of mosquito bites, since these can be transmitting diseases. Always consult an expert!
