Work of nurses

This day is celebrated the International Day of the Nurse, also called "White Angels" for social work and the importance they play in the world. However, this, like other careers, requires vocation and dedication. In Mexico, the Day of the Nurse was instituted January 6, 1921 ; since 1907 it was considered a profession and nowadays, there is a bachelor's degree and specialty in nursing.

The work of the nurses is very broad, because in addition to professionalism, training and integrity, they require great patience to adequately treat patients. They are the ones who sometimes spend more time with a sick person, either in hospitals or at home.

Nursing on the rise

Data from the Ssa indicate that in Mexico there are more than 100 thousand nurses in service in public, private and social assistance institutions; more than 10 thousand graduates from 579 schools and Faculties of Nursing and more than 70 thousand graduate students.

In 2010, the Secretary of Federal Health, José Ángel Córdova Villalobos, affirmed that he will apply a training program to have bilingual nurses in the specialties of plastic, odontological, orthopedic and cardiovascular surgeries in the coming years.

In this way, the so-called "medical tourism" or "health tourism" can be offered in the country, which consists of patients from developed countries traveling to developing nations, such as our country, to perform surgeries at a lower cost. .

Profile of a "good nurse"

1.- Help people recover their physical and emotional health.

2 .- Be sensitive to human pain and be aware of their responsibility to contribute to the welfare of others.

3.- Show security and self-confidence.

4.- Conduct research of social projection.

5.- Apply the meaning and value of the ethical and legal standards of the profession

Encouraging panorama

1.- As of 2005, there was an improvement in working conditions and professional recognition, by excluding the nursing profession from the minimum wage tabulator.

2.- Currently the Ssa has four labor codes, designed to recognize the professional level of those who demonstrate to meet the academic requirements of undergraduate and graduate studies in Nursing.

3.- To date, more than 6,000 nursing workers have been recognized and the number is expected to increase because it is a permanent program.

These actions aim to strengthen the nursing career; to train them and offer them a decent job, so that they can develop, in the best possible way, their work which allows many patients, through their care and suggestions, to have a better quality of life.
