Why does it itch?

The itch is the reason why up to 53% of the population goes to dermatological consultation, taking into account that this symptom is the key data of the ten most frequent dermatoses.

We feel itching on the skin due to the release of substances such as histamine, kallikrein, bradykinin and serotonin, which in turn favor the release of enzymes called proteases at the level of the most superficial layers of the skin.

Known as purito, is the sensation that goes from a slight tingling or itching, to burning or burning sensation that forces the scratching. Also, it is considered an "attenuated pain" because it follows the same conduction pathways as nerve fibers for pain.

There are different types of itch on the skin, and depending on its characteristics can be classified as:

1. Skin disease , such as scabies or scabies, pediculosis (lice), fungus, urticaria, prurigo, atopic dermatitis, photodermatosis, psychodermatosis (nervousness).

2. Systemic disease, such as pregnancy, hepatitis, cirrhosis, kidney disease, diabetes or tumors such as leukemia and lymphomas.

3. Mixed

4. Unknown cause, because sometimes the origin can not be determined

It is very important to determine the origin of this sensation, so you should go to a dermatologist, as it can be caused by dry skin, or even by anemia or lymphoma.

When that type of skin itching occurs, Avoid excessive use of soap, detergents and the sun. It is advisable to lubricate abundantly and frequently, while going to the specialist doctor.

It is important to consider that in cases of chronic pruritus, it can generate imbalance in the personal life of the sufferer, alter sleep, attention at school and work, prevents recreational activities and may trigger psychopathological disorders in the family unless control on time.
