Vitamin D deficiency influences overweight

What does the Sun with the excess of kilos? Although it seems strange, several scientific studies have shown that there is a possible relationship between the lack of vitamin D (which is basically obtained through exposure to sunlight ) and an increase in grease in the body, which generates overweight.

These are basically two investigations carried out in 2011: one by the Tufts-New England Medical Center and another carried out by Dr. Vicente Gilsanz, of the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles (California), published in the "Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism ".

The team of researchers at Tufts-New England Medical Center has associated the lack of vitamin D with an increase in fat and body mass index, factors that determine overweight and obesity.

As they point out, people with less vitamin D in the blood they tend to accumulate fat around the abdomen and increase faster weight.

Previously, the deficiency of vitamin D he had also associated with osteoporosis and diabetes , but now it is considered a key ally in the fight against overweight. The study indicates that low levels of vitamin D can increase the risk of contracting type 2 diabetes up to 46%.

For his part, Dr. Vicente Gilsanz, Children's Hospital of Los Angeles (California), has conducted a study on the vitamin D and the effects of their lack on 90 women from a sunny area of California. The first surprise was the abundance of women who had a lack of this vitamin: 57 of the 90 studied (63%) had insufficient quantities.

Another important finding was the association between insufficiency of vitamin D and obesity. The women in the group that showed deficiencies of this vitamin were, on average, 7.4 kilos heavier than those who did not have this deficiency. In addition, they had 3.4 points more in their body mass measurements.

The authors of both studies admit that there is still much to investigate about this apparent association between lack of vitamin D with overweight and obesity. However, they recommend incorporating foods rich in food into the daily diet. vitamin D and expose ourselves to Sun with moderation.
