Vaccination against influenza and pneumococcus

In the cold of the last days in the Mexico City, the Institute for the Care of the Elderly recommended to vaccinate people over 60 against seasonal influenza and pneumococcus , mainly if they have heart disease, high blood pressure, asthma, emphysema or diabetes.

The newspaper La Jornada (in its electronic version) pointed out that Rosa Icela Rodríguez , director of the agency, recalled that the timely intervention of the Federal District Government to prevent the spread of influenza virus A / H1N1, last year, among adults over 68 years, had satisfactory results, since only 1.1% of 79 thousand 945 people who received medical visits, presented a suspicious clinical picture related to that disease.

The institute will carry out information brigades among older adults to spread preventive actions and avoid infectious diseases . He will also conduct a second study on influenza A / H1N1.
