Unwanted pregnancy in adolescents

According to the publication of "Sexual and reproductive health in adolescence: a right to conquer, manual for adolescents" that indicates guidelines agreed by ISSSTE and non-governmental organizations such as CELSAM and EXPLORA and international agencies such as the Population Fund of the United Nations, here are some steps that can be helpful during an unplanned pregnancy in a teenager:

-The pregnancy between 15 and 19 years of age is classified as high risk, for the complications that it entails in the health of the mother and the baby.

-Teens who have good self-esteem and have an adequate communication with their parents , they plan the beginning of their sexual life.

-Approximately 10% of the abortions that are practiced in our country, occur in women from 15 to 19 years.

-60% of women who become pregnant during adolescence, They have not attended school.

-Contraceptive coverage in young women decreased from 45% in 1997 to 39.4% in 2006.

-The proportion of births of women under 20 years has remained without major changes since 1990. From 18% to 17.4% in 2005, according to data from INEGI 2006.

 

Some causes of teenage pregnancy

Some causes for which a teenage woman decides to get pregnant according to the Ministry of Health are:

-Maternity has great value in Mexican society. If a teenager becomes pregnant, it represents a possibility to be taken into account by adults.

-Affective affect, do not feel loved or accepted by others.

Through procreation, they seek to find a proper reason to fight for.

-They seek to reaffirm their sexual identity.

-They want to transgress the imposed social and family norms.

-They seek a claim through a daughter or son.

-They seek to fill an affective void, and through the baby to establish strong affective bonds that satisfy it.
