Unequal treatment

Hatred towards women is the extreme manifestation of the conflict between masculine and feminine. It is expressed in multiple forms: aversion, contempt, control, exclusion, disqualification, discrimination, beatings, abuse, torture, rape, mutilation, murder ... Everything that comprises the word misogyny.

"Misogyny is linked to culture, since it is found in societies that build their values from a patriarchal vision, male domination. Here the woman is devalued by the simple fact of being a woman and her relationship with man is based on oppression and inequality, "explains the researcher René Jiménez Ornelas, from the Social Research Institute (IIS) of the UNAM .

Misogynist thinking is based on the belief that nature dictates male superiority: the woman is weak, the man is strong; the female is silent, the man speaks; the feminine being was born for the home and the care of the children, the man to develop the mind.

And there is more. The misogynist finds justification in the woman herself: if the man mistreats and controls her, it is because she provokes him. Neither the laws against violence against women have put a stop to this atrocious prejudice.

Unequal treatment

It is estimated that in the world, between 100 and 140 million women and girls suffer the consequences of genital mutilation. This practice involves altering or injuring the female sex organs. It has no medical purposes, but control of female sexuality.

Meanwhile, intrafamily violence is the leading cause of death among Mexican women aged 25 to 45 years due to embolism, cardiac arrest, or suicide due to anxiety and depression.

A study by researcher Jiménez Ornelas and collaborators reports that in Mexico, nine out of every 10 victims of sexual crimes are women. Those who decide to report often run into authorities who hold them responsible for the crime.

The eradication of misogyny can only be possible in an equitable society, where men and women are in equal conditions to exercise their rights and responsibilities. And you, how do you prevent misogyny around you?
