In order to bring to our country the latest medical advances on the diagnosis and treatment of different types of cancer, it will be carried out for the first time in Mexico City. Best of American Society of Clinical Oncology (BOA) Congress.

In this 13th edition worldwide, the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) It will concentrate the largest number of health personnel dedicated to the diagnosis, detention and treatment of the main types of cancer, as well as patients, relatives and patient associations to provide them with information and improve their quality of life.

Top 5 cancers in Mexico

The Dr. Aura Erazo, oncologist and president of the Scientific Committee of the congress , explains that worldwide, cancer is considered the third cause of death, only after cardiovascular problems and diabetes mellitus.

In particular, due to its high incidence, the main cancers in our country are: breast, lung, prostate, gastric and colorectal. In the case of women, the breast and cervical are the deadliest. As for men, those of prostate, lung, gastric and liver or hepatocarcinoma.

Regarding the level of specialization, study, diagnosis and treatment of these types of cancer, the specialist states that Mexico is on par with the best countries; nevertheless, he notes, the main problem is the lack of education, information and timely diagnosis, because the majority is carried out in advanced stages.

Panorama for the next years

According to the specialist, despite this type of effort, for the next one, an increase in the number of neoplasms that will be diagnosed is expected, which is why educational work for prevention purposes will be fundamental.

Likewise, it reiterates the importance in the need of a greater medical specialization for its prevention, making timely diagnoses, and being able to execute multidisciplinary treatments, in order to improve the quality of life of those patients that manage to overcome some of these types of cancer.
