They will promote condom use in high school

The use of condoms will be promoted in high schools that depend on the Ministry of Public Education, announced Alonso Lujambio, head of the department, with the aim of students practicing responsible sex and avoid unwanted pregnancies.

During the signing ceremony of the agreement between the Mexican Institute of Social Security, IMSS, and the SEP, it was agreed to provide health care for young people through prevention programs, since more than 1 million students attend affiliated high schools the SEP, and the latest surveys indicate that there is a high percentage of unwanted pregnancies among teenagers

Lujambio said that according to the National Health Survey and the Exclusion, intolerance and Violence survey, both prepared by INEGI, 27.9% of women and 25.3% of adolescent men they do not use any type of contraceptive method during their first sexual relationship.

7.6% of adolescents between the ages of 15 and 19 get pregnant without wanting it in Mexico due to lack of information and sex education .

The official stressed that this program promotes the use of condoms, but does not promote or inhibit sexual activity among young people.
