They discover antibodies that eliminate HIV

A new vaccine could be created through the discovered antibodies in a US-African-American gay donor, which would mean a step closer to managing to contain the epidemic that has plagued the world for decades, HIV / AIDS.

Scientists of the United States government found that thanks to the cells taken from the individual, better called "Donator 45", it is possible to neutralize the human immunodeficiency virus in 91%, a percentage more effective than any other antibody discovered so far.

Now the challenge will be in create a vaccine from these antibodies, although it is a complicated challenge, says the director of the Vaccine Research Center at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the physician Gary Nabel. Although Dr. Nabel's research has already been published in the journal Science, the researcher points out that this will still take a little time before the benefits can be realized in a local pharmacy.

The latest worldwide efforts to discover a cure to this deadly infection, have resulted in only 30% to 40% of effectiveness in neutralizing the virus with antibodies, but this new discovery has a significantly larger result, apart from the fact that the antibodies found are much more powerful when eliminating the virus in comparison to others.

The researchers contemplate testing the antibodies mixed in a powerful cocktail, in three possible ways, the first would be in something similar to a drug or in the form of gel to prevent the transmission of the virus, but it would be extremely expensive and its action in the body is not very durable. The second one would be through making vaccines and the third one through experimental methods, such as gene therapy .

Several multidisciplinary teams are currently working to achieve a successful outcome and although it could take more time to be commercialized, definitely It is a promising medical breakthrough.
