The phytodrugs are an option to treat diseases

In Xochitepec, a small town in the state of Morelos, is one of the most important scientific institutions in the world. It is the Center for Biomedical Research of the South (CIBS), belonging to the Mexican Institute of Social Security, where various phytomedicines (drugs created from medicinal plants) are developed that can be the answer to multiple diseases.

Arterial hypertension, infections caused by nail fungus (ringworm), anxiety and chronic degenerative diseases, such as diabetes can be treated with these phytodrugs that offer multiple advantages for those with the condition, such as the fact that causes side effects, as is often the case with some allopathic products.

Even though many of the medicinal products are in advanced stages of experimentation and research, Doctor Jaime Tortoriello García, director of the CIBS, has indicated that their effectiveness is fully proven.

Jamaica flower, calderona or solarium

High blood pressure is a disease that affects 15 million people in Mexico and one in 10 young people with obesity problems. Given this panorama, the scientific team of the CIBS has developed, from the flower of Jamaica or Hibisus sabdariffa, a phytomedicine of proven efficacy in the treatment of hypertension, considered a milestone in Mexican medical science.

Other exemplary medicines made with herbs are:

1. Based on the popularly known as Calderona amarilla, which is the Galphimia glauca and that it has positive effects in patients with anxiety, a disorder that affects 7 percent of the population in Mexico and that every day receives more victims, especially among women.

2. Developed from the solanaceous plant called Solarium Chrisotrichum, is used in the development of a cream to treat ringworm on the nails and that benefits an important sector of the Mexican population given the large number of diseases caused by fungi that are reported in the doctor's office.

The Center for Biomedical Research of the South was created in 1985 and is the only research center in the American continent that carries out an integral work based on traditional Mexican medicine and on the pharmacological, photochemical, biotechnological and clinical toxicological research of medicinal plants.
