It may be common for many of us not to review the expiration date of some of our medications, and when we have some discomfort, the only thing we think about is to alleviate it, butWhat happens if you take an expired medication?

What is a fact, is that when the expiration date of some medicines happens, it does not have the same effectiveness as if it were valid. It also depends how much time has elapsed since it expired.

According to studies published by the Mayo Clinic, this happens mainly with antibiotics, that when the date is over, the active substance can diminish its effect.

The medicines that should not be consumed are:

• Antibiotics
• Anticonvulsants
• Medications to regulate the thyroid
• Insulin
• Epinephrine
• Penicillin
• Antihistamines

Some of these could provoke joys reactions, but that depends on the sensitivity of each organism to certain substances.

The drug that can be taken after three years of expiration and will not reduce its effect is paracetamol.
