The disease does not promote cardiovascular problems

Antidepressant drugs and antipsychotics may increase the risk of sudden death, according to the European Heart Journal.

It is thought that people who take antidepressants and antipsychotics have a much higher risk of suffering a fatal arrhythmia during a coronary disease.

The disease does not promote cardiovascular problems

Contrary to what many people think, psychiatric disorders such as depression or schizophrenia are not causal of cardiovascular problems by themselves.

The risk of sudden cardiac death with those of survivors of acute coronary diseases increases with the use of some antidepressants or antipsychotics.

A study conducted at the University Hospital of Oulu, monitoring patients with heart problems and a history of psychiatric problems, recorded that up to 9.7% took antipsychotics before an acute myocardial infarction

In the case of antidepressants, 8.6 percent of patients in the sudden death group had used them. So it is assumed a close relationship between these drugs and a possible heart attack.

These observations indicate the need for cardiologists and psychiatrists to establish together treatments that help the patient to regulate their functions without side effects.
