Substances that damage the skin

The absorption of toxins through the skin is one of the most common means by which it can be damaged, due to many chemical which are found in products that we use every day for personal care, ranging from makeup and body creams, even cleaning in general and other similar.

According to a study of the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico , there is up to 300 chemical substances contained in various articles of hygiene and daily use to which we expose the skin , whose consequences imply dryness, greater generation of fat, acne, aging, allergies Y Cancer , to name a few.

 

Substances that damage the skin

Between the substances that have been identified as causing serious damage to the skin and to health in general, due to its toxicity after frequent and prolonged use, are:

1. Formaldehyde . Chemical present in many hair dye that has been associated with an increased risk of leukemia, because it stimulates the growth and development of cancer cells, according to researchers at the University of California in San Francisco.

2. Alcohol. Mouthwashes that contain 25% or higher alcohol content are involved with the Oral cancer and cancer of the throat . Alcohol acts as a solvent in the mouth causing the most vulnerable tissues to be carcinogenic, depending on the National Cancer Research of the United Kingdom.

3. HC (HC Orange 3), Acid (Acid network 73) or Pigment (Pigment Green 7). They are substances that are used to give the desired color to creams, bath gels, makeups, dyes, etc., many of them have proven to be highly carcinogenic and alter the DNA molecules, according to a study in the American Journal of Epidemiology .

4. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) . Present in paints, waxes, degreasers and shampoo, generates irritation in the skin with a prolonged contact, retards the growth of hair , corrodes hair follicles, and is also considered a mutagenic agent capable of causing changes in DNA.

5. Asbestos . An investigation in the Journal of the American Medical Association reveals that this substance is present in various talcs (makeup, feminine, baby, for feet, etc.) and in some spray deodorants that is associated with an increased risk of Cancer , in addition to covering the pores of the skin .

6. Phthalates . Solvents and softeners that can be found in creams, nail polishes, perfumes, hair sprays and deodorants, which cause damage to the reproductive and endocrine systems, as well as an increased risk of suffering asthma Y Cancer , according to University of Rochester .

In addition to the previous ones, another one of the substances that damage the skin is the endiethanolamine (DEA), present in more than 600 products cosmetics , which, according to specialists of the University of Illinois and the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) increases the incidence of liver and kidney cancers.
