Special aromas for you!

How developed is your sense of smell? Genes are the culprit that some people notice any scent that is around them, or that others can not even perceive it.

An investigation of New Zealand Institute for Plant and Food Research It suggests that genetics directly influences people's sense of smell, that is, generates sensitivity to certain odors, while others do not.

In the study published in the magazine Current Biology It specifies that genetic differences are the reason why people can smell certain aromas and others can not.

Special aromas for you!

With 10 different scents, the researchers analyzed the sense of smell of 200 people, as well as their DNA. At the end they found a relationship between the sensitivity of smell with certain genetic variants in only four flavors: malt, apple, blue cheese and violets.

Jeremy McRae, the study's researcher, notes that most people have their own unique set of odors to which they are sensitive.

The generic variants are close to the genes that code for the odor receptors, which are found on the surface of sensory nerve cells in the nose.

When some chemical compounds float in the air, the nerve cells send a signal to the brain and give it the perception of an odor. And you, how developed do you have your sense of smell?
