Single women, incomplete?

In Mexico, more than 60% of young people between 15 and 29 years of age are single, who have chosen, for various reasons, to stay in that state, according to INEGI figures. However, it can be seen how even in society it is considered -explicitly or implicitly- that single women are incomplete women.

The circumstances that explain the phenomenon of single women, considered incomplete because they do not have a partner, are diverse: the experience of feeling "at fault", "incomplete" or "defective" does not.

In spite of the reasons, whether she has never been married or any other that forces her to live without a partner, for a time or for the rest of her life, the other women, the married (much more privileged social class), They will say to these women: "You can remake your life, I assure you," explains the psychologist Rocío Arocha, Director of the Logotherapy Institute.

In this sense, it is worth mentioning that the women themselves do not know how to value or belittle the life of single women or a project without a partner. They are the ones who look with admiration at the first of the school that has a boyfriend, who does have a partner, the popular one, who gets the best party.

It is the women who, in the privacy of their lives, suspect that if they do not have a partner it is because they have a terrible defect. This feeling is accentuated when they have not developed professional interests, when their potential is being exploited, so they tend to lower their self-esteem and value.

Therefore, Arocha recommends, it is necessary for all women to realize that they should be less prejudiced, less discriminating and less judgmental of single women, be it decision or circumstances, for a time or for a lifetime.

There is a merit in deciding to choose well, not to get involved with a destructive person just to avoid criticism. There is merit in protecting children and not getting involved with anyone, emphasizes the specialist.

"All women have life, and, incredible as it may seem: a good life, even when there are those who think that single women are incomplete women."
