In 2008, 5 thousand 180 people died HIV AIDS ; 90% occurred between 20 and 54 years of age and 20% between 30 and 34 years, so it is considered premature death, however, survival has been increasing as a result of the epidemiological changes and the antiretroviral treatment . Currently, the average age of survival is 39 years.

Izazola Licea, indicated that mechanisms have been sought to strengthen prevention maternal child of the HIV and the Congenital syphilis , resulting in the proposal for agreement of CONASIDA on the implementation of the Program for the Prevention of Maternal and Child Transmission of HIV and Congenital Syphilis in Mexico.
