Protect your Achilles tendon

The call Achilles tendon is the tissue that connects the heel bone to muscle of the calf in the leg. The injuries most frequent are the inflammation or tendonitis and the tears .

  1. Application of cold for 20 to 30 minutes, every three or four hours to reduce pain
  2. Raise the leg on a pillow
  3. Anti-inflammatory (under medical prescription)
  4. Therapy physical
  5. Orthopedic insole to elevate the heel
  6. Avoid exercises that requires the extension of the tendon

In severe cases of tendonitis , the application of a splint may be necessary for a few weeks. In case of complete rupture it may be required surgery and splint.

 

Prevention

The best way to avoid injuries to the Achilles tendon, is to perform exercises heating and stretches for at least five minutes before starting the physical activity . If you frequently suffer from tendonitis , avoid sports such as climbing or running on steep slopes.
