Popular insurance covers more diseases

He explained that the 7 conditions to be treated are myocardial infarction in children under 60, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma at any age, testicular cancer, corneal transplant, bone marrow transplant for leukemia and aplastic anemia, and lysosomal diseases as polysaccharidosis, Fabre and Bosch.

 

During a meeting with representatives of the media, said that these are some of the 7 diseases that encompass 15 diseases, which as of this year (2011) are served in the Seguro Popular, whose high cost generated impoverishing expenses to the patients and their families.

 


 

It is estimated that each year around 20 thousand people they can receive treatment for any of these diseases, which represent an investment of one thousand 800 million pesos per year for the National System of Social Protection in Health.

 

The Secretary of Health indicated that in the case of lysosomal diseases, although they are rare, their treatment requires an expense of between 2 and 4 million pesos per year, otherwise, the patient dies.

 

The medical service of these conditions will be offered in more than 100 clinics and hospitals that are certified by Seguro Popular, he said.

 

Regarding the inclusion of new diseases in the Popular Insurance coverage, the National Commissioner for Social Protection in Health, Salomón Chertorivski, added that it is expected to serve between 4 and 15 thousand patients per acute myocardial infarction to the myocardium; 2 thousand for non-Hodgkin lymphoma; 100 for lysosomal diseases and 1,200 cases of testicular tumor . In addition, perform 300 bone marrow transplants and 2 thousand cornea.
