Poor health care, cause of maternal mortality

In Mexico, every three minutes a woman dies as a result of pre-eclampsia, a hypertensive disease that, in addition, is the first cause of cesareans , together with other factors such as eclampsia, hemorrhages and obstetric infections; Therefore, it is necessary to reduce all that risk that contributes to maternal mortality.

In accordance with Jacqueline Tovar Casas, President of the Mexican Foundation for Prevention and Maternal Health , 80% of cases of maternal mortality are preventable, so it is necessary to intensify the attention and information on hypertensive diseases during pregnancy, childbirth and puerperium, as well as medical care of better quality against obstetric emergencies .

On the other hand, Flor de María Pedraza Aguilera, president of the Committee for the Study Center for the Advancement of Women and Gender Equity (CEAMEG) , indicated that this initiative is intended to fulfill the Plan of the Millennium Development Goals (UN), signed by the Mexican government to reduce maternal and infant mortality due to this cause in 2015.
