Past: Blessing or curse?

We all have our history and it is not in doubt that some of them show a difficult past, in which resentment, bad example, pain or indifference may have wreaked havoc. However, who we are at this moment is the fruit of all that we have lived, life's experiences good or bad, happy moments and bitter drinks, successes and failures. Everything as a whole has shaped each one of us.

There is a story that perfectly describes the way in which one life's experiences , obviously negative, can be seen from two different perspectives and therefore, the impact it has becomes something that can be used for or against: They were two brothers, raised in the same home and, although close to each other by blood, they were very different from each other.

They had shared the hard experience of growing up, together with an alcoholic, authoritarian and irresponsible father, who had been in jail several times.

The older brother suffered from alcoholism, left school and after a few years he got married. He often mistreated his family, barely worked, and often had problems with the police.

When on one occasion he was asked why he acted in this way, he replied: "With such a father and a childhood like the one I had, how could it have been otherwise?"

The younger brother, despite sharing the same experiences, never stopped studying, and unlike his brother, he became an attentive and responsible husband and good father.

He also became a successful businessman, who also brought economic and social benefits to his community. Occasionally, he was invited to give lectures to share the secrets of his success and was listened with attention and interest for his audience.

One day, in an interview, they asked him what he attributed to the success he had in his life, and he answered: "With such a father and a childhood like the one I had, how could it have been otherwise?"

It is a fact that in life we have opportunities to take advantage of and many of them are wrapped with a web of pain, that when we suffer for something, usually by hand, comes a great lesson that will help us direct our steps towards well-being and success

There is no doubt that the "garbage" that enter our lives, for various reasons, including those that one accepts, can be considered as harmful aggressors that end with us, or as opportunities that will help us to be more valuable and better people.

We all learn from pain-based experiences and it is precisely these lessons that will help us grow personally, professionally and spiritually. It is worth analyzing our past and how it has influenced who we are today. Remember once again, it is not what happens to you that affects you, it is how you react to what happens to you.
