Optimists or pessimists?

Researchers of the University College of London , indicate that 80% of people are optimistic although they do not identify themselves as such.

To obtain this conclusion, the researchers carried out a study, in which they evaluated, through a brain scan, the level of optimism of a population formed by 14 people.

Each participant was asked how likely it was that 80 different negative events would happen and then they were told the real probability that it would happen, which marked significant differences, for example: the actual risk of cancer was 40%, as that the participants evaluated the risk in only 30%.

Optimists or pessimists?

Positive news It was found that in the face of positive news people had greater activity in the frontal lobes of the brain, associated with processing errors.

Negative news When receiving a negative news, the "most optimistic" participants had less activity in the frontal lobes, and the "pessimists" had more.

This situation, say the researchers, may be the reason why ads that indicate the risks of smoking do not work: people think that the risk of lung cancer or death are really low, which suggests that the brain acts selectively and with a tendency towards a favorable and positive situation.

B12 vitamin. A study published in Neurology , reveals that the lack of vitamin B12, causes the brain to develop cognitive problems and lose neurons, vitamin B12, is found in fish, meat, milk and eggs.

Exercise. A study conducted by the University of South Carolina , indicates that regular exercise not only increases muscle mass, but also increases the number of mitochondria in brain cells, which are responsible for maintaining and producing energy in our body.
