Nourishing for the skin?

Currently there are many products in the market for cosmetic use that ensure to provide benefits for the beauty of the skin, due to the added vitamins.

Therefore, in GetQoralHealth and with data from Hector Riveros Y Adriana Julián , researchers from Department of Biochemistry in the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) we present 4 main vitamins added in cosmetics.

 

Nourishing for the skin?

Vitamin A

Also known as retinol is a vitamin that is often added in creams, lotions, among other products to reduce and prevent the formation of wrinkles to give a younger appearance to the skin.

Investigation. By adding retinol directly to cosmetics, it is rapidly degraded by contact with oxygen, air or exposure to light; so the absorption of this component in the skin is minimal.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C or also called ascorbic acid has antioxidant properties and is essential in the synthesis of collagen, these benefits have been shown when eating foods with this vitamin.

Investigation. At pH values ​​lower than 3.5 vitamin C is stable, and no cosmetic can be elaborated to such a high degree of acidity, as it would cause skin irritation.

Vitamin E

The main function of vitamin E is to act as an antioxidant: it protects the cells from free radicals. The accumulation of cellular damage by free radicals is one of the causes of aging.

Investigation. Vitamin E and its derivatives are soluble in fat, for this reason they are relatively easy to absorb in the skin, however in most cosmetics the amount added that can be used by living skin cells is very small.

 

How to take care of the skin?

The researchers explain that these results do not mean that the use of cosmetics to protect the skin is suspended; however, they do not always have effects as useful or beneficial as might be expected.

The creams help prevent dry skin. It is recommended to avoid excesses in: exposure to sunlight, use of detergents, acetone or organic solvents, rubbing or manipulation of the skin, exposure to tobacco smoke and adequate nutrition. Watch your health!
