Noise pollution generates damage to health

The noise pollution in the cities it is the second cause of illness for environmental reasons, behind the atmospheric pollution , said the director of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Europe, Zsuzsana Jakab.

The noise pollution it is defined as a sound unwanted or disturbing. A sound becomes unwanted when it interferes with activities of daily life, such as sleeping or talking, or that breaks into the quality of life of a person.

One out of every 3 citizens in the West suffers from health problems associated with noise. One in 5 reported having difficulty sleeping because of the traffic , which increases the risk of suffering cardiovascular diseases or hypertension.

Other problems associated with noise pollution They include stress, high blood pressure, hearing loss, and loss of productivity.

Jakab hopes that the evidence released by the report, encourage governments and local authorities to introduce policies of noise control at the national and local level, and protect health of its inhabitants.
