Night terrors in children (after the earthquake)

For those of us who are dads, we know that the emotional and psychological impact of an earthquake is of great impact on our children.

Maybe they are apparently calm during the day but over the course of the night they can start to experience various disorders in their sleep habits, as highlighted by Juan Carlos Aguilar, a specialist in child psychology.

The night terrors are sleep disturbances in which the child can cry, babble, scream and shake with his eyes open but without being awake.

This happens because it is in an intermediate zone between sleep and wakefulness.

Is there a difference with nightmares?

Yes. Nightmares leave children fully awake and remember the dream, whereas night terrors do not.

What to do?

Do not wake him up, you will only worsen his night terror.

Speak calmly, in front of him and remove any item that may harm him (toys, lamps or some nearby furniture)

The specialist recommends that if a child has night terrors over a week, be evaluated by an expert to channel an effective treatment to follow.
