In an interview with GetQoralHealth, the Dr. Alejandra Ramírez Venegas, Chief of the COPD Clinic of the National Institute of Respiratory Diseases (INER) , explains that sleep disorders can be due to very little sleep or too much sleep, which could even be related to other ailments. Some of the most frequent are:

1. Sleep apnea. This disorder is related to obesity and an excessive accumulation of fatty tissue in the mouth, with pulmonary hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, fatigue, headache and daytime hypersomnia (falling asleep during the day).

2. Insomnia . Approximately 50% of types of insomnia they are associated with psychological conditions, such as stress, anxiety, chronic anguish, mood disorders, depression, bipolarity, phobias, etc. There are medical diseases such as reflux, arthritis, prostate problems and fibromyalgia that are also linked.

3. Restless legs syndrome. This disorder occurs each time the person lies down, whose discomfort forces them to move them to relieve the sensation. It is linked to respiratory and circulation problems, as well as insomnia, daytime hypersomnia and chronic fatigue.

There are various sleep disorders that can be caused or linked to other conditions. The most important thing, says Dr. Ramírez, is to go to a specialist or sleep clinic to try to diagnose and treat, opportunely and adequately, the disorder.

Also, the specialist recommends a change in life and sleep habits, as a first measure, as well as exercise, find methods of relaxation and set specific hours to sleep.
