Mexico has one of the lowest rates of HIV infection

In Mexico there are 48 thousand people with AIDS and 34 thousand 976 with the virus HIV Without having developed the disease, it occurs in the population between 15 to 49 years of age. Currently the country has one of the lowest infection rates in the world!

The secretary of health, Dr. José Ángel Córdova Villalobos, commented that in the last 4 years the number of treatments has tripled to people who receive antiretroviral (ARVs) for HIV / AIDS; decreasing the mortality 3.2% in 3 years.

At the meeting held last June at the headquarters of the Organization of the United Nations (UN) , the Political Declaration on HIV AIDS , in which the countries committed to intensify the effort to eliminate it and renew the global response, with a focus on human rights, establishing the need to strengthen and increase prevention actions.

He stated that in Mexico actions aimed at preventing new infections through the prevention focused , offer better services and strengthen the work to fight the stigma, discrimination that surround the disease.

 

Why are antiretrovirals effective against HIV / AIDS?

Are the main treatment for the disease; although it is not a cure, but it allows people to delay the development of the disease for many years.

Side effects

The ARV therapy it brings with it a series of side effects that the patient gets to suffer either at the beginning of treatment or as this lasts; usually they are usually mild, although there are some that can last from days to weeks.

  4. Fatigue
  5. Anemia

  8. High levels of fats and blood sugar
  9. High levels of even cholesterol, triglycerides
  10. Problems with skin rashes, dry skin and hair loss
  11. Neuropathy painful caused by nerve damage
  12. Mitochondrial toxicity, can cause Kidney damage and cause accumulation of lactic acid
  13. Osteoporosis
