Mexico continues fight vs AIDS

Mexico has satisfactorily fulfilled its goals on prevention, care and control of HIV AIDS , because 78% of patients receive a treatment antiretroviral ; In addition, the mortality rate is 4.2 annual deaths per 100 thousand people, from 15 to 49 years.

In accordance with Mauricio Hernández Ávila , Undersecretary of Prevention and Promotion of Health , in the country there are six thousand new infections by year. He also stressed that it is essential to have an opportune diagnosis of HIV to prevent the disease advance and more deaths occur.

On the other hand, José Antonio Licea , general director of National Center for the Prevention and Control of HIV / AIDS , reported that there are approximately 34 million people living with HIV around the world.

In the Latin American region, the prevalence of HIV in the adult population it has remained unchanged from 2001 to 2010 with a rate of 0.4%.

The epidemic in that region it has greater concentration in men who have sex with people of the same gender, with those who work in sex work and in those who use drug injectables.

As of September 30, 2011, the figures show that of the total number of cases of AIDS , 82% are men; In addition, 36,714 cumulative cases were registered, of which 72.8% are men. Also, 31% of the infections It occurs in men and women under 25 years of age.

In 2010 there were 81 thousand people who required antiretroviral treatment, of which 1,600 children were under 15 years of age and almost 1,300 pregnant women.

He assured that 44% of the total cases with HIV they are concentrated in the Federal District, State of Mexico, Veracruz and Jalisco; while the entities with the lowest figures are: Zacatecas, Baja California Sur, Colima and Aguascalientes.

 

Remove FMSTM resources to Mexico

Just a few days to commemorate the World Day for the Fight against AIDS , it was announced that Mexico will stop receiving 67 million dollars from Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (FMSTM), which will affect its main preventive programs, as well as the distribution of condoms and campaigns to prevent the transmission of this evil among drug addicts.

The measure is carried out because the nation is considered a country with high average income that belongs to the G20, said the head of the National Center for HIV / AIDS Control (Censida) , José Antonio Izazola , and the Undersecretary of Health , Mauricio Hernández .

For that reason, the dependencies will request the Chamber of Deputies an extraordinary budget of at least 30 million dollars, to avoid that there is regression in the advances in the fight against epidemic in Mexico.
