Mexicans with the lowest level of good cholesterol

Mexicans have the lowest rates of HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol) worldwide, a condition that increases the number of deaths per cardiovascular diseases said the doctor Armando Tovar Palacio .

Through a press release, the Universidad Iberoamericana said that a study carried out by the National Institute of Medical Sciences, Salvador Zubirán, indicates that Mexicans have the lowest HDL cholesterol (High Density Lipoprotein) indexes. , all over the world, due to a polymorphism, that is, a variation in the DNA sequence, where it is enough that a nucleotide is altered to generate a predisposition to diseases in which environmental changes also intervene.

HDL cholesterol is known as "good" cholesterol, and it is a type of grease that helps eliminate the cholesterol of the blood, avoiding the accumulation of fat and the formation of plaque. Tovar Palacio, affirmed that the genetic profile of each person can offer a fundamental information to know what is the ideal food plan for each individual.

He revealed that the study found a polymorphism present only in the geographic region of Mexico to Argentina and it is particularly the Mexican population that has the greatest tendency to this genetic alteration that predisposes it to suffer heart diseases :

"The study of nutrigenetics and nutrigenomics is fundamental today, research has revealed that the response of humans is different from food and is determined by genetic variability, responsible for individuals reacting differently to treatments. sciences are indispensable tools for nutritionists of the 21st century, "said Dr. Tovar Palacio.
