Metabolic syndrome can cause diabetes

The Metabolic syndrome or Syndrome X As it was known some years ago, it is the conjunction of several risk factors that lead a person to suffer a heart disease or diabetes.

Researchers have discovered that these elements can occur in a single individual, which increases the chances of getting sick.

In this regard, the health specialist, Gustavo Castillo, pointed out that people with metabolic syndrome have a higher risk of suffering a heart attack or coronary artery disease.

Genetic factors

It is believed to be a genetic disease, that is, transmitted in the genes of one family, from one generation to the next. However, in general, doctors do not fully understand why the metabolic syndrome occurs.

In people suffering from diseases characterized by insulin resistance such as diabetes and hyperinsulinemia are more likely to develop the metabolic syndrome.

The exact cause of this disease is not known, but among the contributing factors is the genetic condition, excess fat (especially around the waist) and lack of exercise.

Excess insulin in the blood

When there is a lot of insulin in the bloodstream, the risk of a heart attack increases, because insulin raises triglyceride levels and lowers high-density lipoprotein levels (HDL or "good cholesterol" ).

In addition, it increases the levels of low density lipoproteins (LDL or "bad cholesterol" ); it makes it harder for the body to remove fats from the blood after eating; It increases blood pressure and increases the ability of blood to clot. Those who live with the metabolic syndrome have a higher risk of developing some type of diabetes .
