Lysophosphatidic acid causes hydrocephalus

For a long time, scientists believed that congenital hydrocephalus , common disease in children, was generated by brain bleeds ; However, a new study revealed that it is caused by abnormal levels of lysophosphatidic acid (LPA)

The research, published in the magazine Science Translational Medicine , highlights that the LPA is a lipid of blood transmission that enters the brain in high concentrations in some bleedings; occurs during the brain's growth fetus and intervenes in the normal development of mother cells .

The high concentrations of this hormone of fat can cause damage to the development of brain cells, which leads to excessive accumulation of liquid cerebrospinal at brain .

What is hydrocephalus?

It is an accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid inside of the skull , generating an inflammation of brain . This fluid is responsible for carrying nutrients and eliminate the waste of that organ . The consequences of this condition are explained in the following video.

To prevent hydrocephalus , the experts recommend attending the controls and consultations with the doctor; Carry one diet balanced before and during pregnancy ; as well as consume folic acid .
