Loose lips sink ships!

Sometimes our verbal communication exceeds the limits of convenience, becoming a vehicle for conflicts and misunderstandings; above all, if it is used incorrectly in areas such as work and the relationship with our superiors. Although, in these cases, what is it that a boss should never be told ?

Maintaining good relationships at work is essential for professional success. According to the survey "Motivations of the Mexican at work" , made to 1,600 people by the firm Randstad, a bad work environment is the second factor for which employees give up, only overcome by the possibility of finding another better opportunity.

Loose lips sink ships!

A relationship and good communication with your superiors can open an infinity of doors to achieve success, but if it is not done with conscience it can have unfavorable consequences. Therefore we present 7 things you should never tell your boss, in accordance with Luis Vengas , specialist in individual and family therapy.

1. "That was not what you told me to do." Even if your boss was wrong and gave you erroneous or inaccurate instructions, it is not a good idea to point it out openly. The best way to say it is: "I think I understood what you need, now I fix it".

2. "I'm not paid to do this." Although drawing borders clearly is essential in case you feel that your superior is overreaching with you and your functions, using arrogance to solve the situation is never a good idea.

3. "What a night". Never tell your boss what you do during your free time; if you have gone out at night; if you have stayed with friends. It should not interest you and you do not have to know it.

4. "Will those hours count as extra time?" If you say no to what they are asking you or demand that they compensate you as overtime, your boss will perfectly remember your attitude and your words when there is a better position available.

5. "I'm going to find a new job." When you seek employment from your current position, the consequences depend on who knows. It is not the same to keep it secret or that the boss is aware of that search, especially if you do not succeed in abruptness.

6. "I'm busy, ask someone else" . The first part can be correct, the second is always wrong. If you have to perform a certain task and you are chosen, some good reason must be behind a certain decision.

7. "I have to go at 5 p.m. because I have spinning class " . Do not give explanations about how you use your free time, better offer a solution.

You must never forget at all times that there is a hierarchy, even if you feel that friendship has made it disappear.

For Darcy Lewis, author of the article Biomedical Instrumentation & Technology calledManaging Upward: Maximizing Effectiveness with Your Boss , the guidelines that must be followed in the relationship with the superior are clear communication, recognize the merits of superiors and know when it is time to be silent (be diplomatic and avoid long-term disputes).
