The obesity and overweight are the causes of hepatic steatosis most important non-alcoholic, but they are not the only ones.

The Mexican Association of Hepatology indicates the following as causes of the hepatic steatosis .

1. Have metabolic syndrome.

2. Presenting acute liver disease during pregnancy.

3. Take antiretroviral medications.

4. Having or having suffered intestinal inflammatory diseases.

5. Loss of rapid weight.

6. Malnutrition.

7. Having hepatitis C virus.

8. Tuberculosis.

 

Little symptomatology

While in most cases the hepatic steatosis is asymptomatic whoever has it can present fatigue , pain in the upper abdomen and weight loss due to lack of appetite, experts say. Mayo Clinic .

A person has hepatic steatosis when fat increases the weight of the liver 5% , which may be due to a transfer of sebum from the other parts of the body or the difficulty to eliminate it by the same organ.

It is estimated that three out of 10 patients with steatosis can evolve to a condition called steatohepatitis : inflammation of the liver cells. This can progress with time and cause the development of cirrhosis, indicates the Mexican Association of Hepatology .
