Laboratory of high security and diseases in Mexico

The Biosafety Level 3 laboratory will allow the timely detection of Emerging diseases or by intentional release. This team is similar to that of developed nations. In three weeks the first stage of its operation will begin and in September the sampling routine will start.

The general director of the Institute of Epidemiological Diagnosis and Reference (INDRE), Celia Alpuche Aranda, said that in the BSL3 laboratory diagnostics faster with international standardized techniques for timely detection of emerging diseases and / or derived from bioterrorism.

Thanks to this, Mexico acquires international credibility for quality controls, in addition, fulfills the commitment of the Alliance for Security and Prosperity Initiative for North America, takes the first step towards the modernization of the Epidemiological Surveillance System and integrates the International Network of Response Laboratories coordinated by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the United States.

It is designed for the safe handling of biological agents such as Brusella, Rift Valley Fever Virus, Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis, Anthrax, Tularemia, tuberculosis and influenza.

Celia Alpuche highlighted that the creation of BSL3 was supported by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Centers for Disease Control of Atlanta, the National Institutes of the United States and the Public Health Agency of Canada. .
