Know them!

Some people adopt a dog or a cat just for fun and without 100% taking responsibility for this action. This generates carelessness and promotes the development of diseases in pets that can put their lives at risk.

Bad hygiene habits, poor diet and lack of company are oversights that encourage the development of gastrointestinal, oral and emotional ailments in a pet.

In an interview for GetQoralHealth, the doctor Alejandro Sanchez, technical advisor in the area of pets in Bayer Mexico, highlights that a pet requires many preventive care since it is a puppy until it reaches adulthood.

Know them!

1. Parasitic diseases

The neglect of the owners favors the appearance of diseases such as toxocariasis; are the ones that cause the greatest damage to the health of pets.

To prevent it, it is recommended to deworm the puppies every 15 days during the first three months; once they have completed three months, it should be done every month and, after six months, it should be dewormed every three months.

It is very important to de-worming because these diseases are transmitted to people, which causes diarrhea, abdominal pain, cough and fever, among other symptoms.

2. Periodontitis or gingivitis

These diseases are very common in neglected pets and appear because of the lack of oral hygiene. The main symptom is bad breath, which causes rejection of the pet.

3. Endocarditis

Alejandro Sánchez, a teacher in Animal Production Sciences from the UNAM, points out that this condition arises from the lack of teeth cleaning in pets.

The accumulation of bacteria and tartar that registers in the snout reach the bloodstream and damage the valves of the heart.

4. Anxiety

The specialist explains that companion animals experience emotional problems like humans, especially when they are rejected or ignored by the owners.

Licking the legs is a symptom that the pet experiences when this condition appears. The repetition of this behavior causes damage to the skin of the dog or cat.

5. Ticks and fleas

Many people think that it is normal for a dog to have fleas and to constantly scratch itself, but it is not so.

"A dog does not have to have fleas, it is necessary to perform an anti-flea and anti-tick care monthly. Even some dogs develop allergic dermatitis due to the presence of fleas, "explains the doctor.

6. Parvovirus or distemper

When people do not vaccinate their puppies and walk around parks, it is easier for them to become infected with diseases such as parvovirus or distemper, and they even have the risk of dying.

7. Feline viral leukemia

This disease is registered mainly in cats and is very similar to AIDS in humans, that is, lowers the defenses, which makes the animals vulnerable to other diseases.

One way to prevent these diseases in pets by carelessness of the owners is to maintain good nutrition, hygiene and implement preventive health.

"A vaccine or deworming is not as expensive as a disease that can develop due to the lack of both care", concludes the specialist.
