IMSS identifies causes of childhood obesity

The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) , with the objective of knowing the factors that develop the obesity child in Mexico and identify the causes of risk to prevent the onset of chronic degenerative diseases such as diabetes , arterial hypertension or chronic renal insufficiency , he did the study "Genetics of obesity in childhood and adolescence" .

Experts point out that one of the reasons for the childhood obesity in Mexico, is that children and young people do not consume fiber , they take little water and their diet is based on the intake of foods rich in fat and proteins, as well as soft drinks and sugary drinks in abundance.

To determine the health status of children, anthropometric measurements (weight, height, waist circumference) are applied, blood pressure , determination of the levels of glucose , triglycerides , cholesterol and insulin and genetic studies (which identifies genes that are associated with the childhood obesity ).

With these tests you can also detect the presence of dark colored folds (acanthosis ) on the neck and forearms, which indicate the likelihood of suffering metabolic alterations And till prediabetes .

With this research it was found that the three components that trigger the obesity childish in Mexico, they are the sedentary lifestyle , which is the lack of physical activity daily high caloric intake, that is, the consumption of refined flours, sugars and fats and the genetics .
